The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes’ fine soccer season came to a close Tuesday when they dropped a 3-0 decision to Riverton in a semifinal match of the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin Class 1A Sectional.

The Wooden Shoes finished with a 16-5-2 overall record and regional championship.

“It was a good season and we hate to see it end,” said THS coach Aaron Wendt “We have five graduating seniors and two foreign exchange students we are really going to miss next year.”

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes soccer team is headed to the sectional.

The Shoes earned that berth with a 3-1 win Friday over Newton in the championship match of the Teutopolis Class 1A Regional.

Alex Deters scored two first-half goals to put T-Town ahead to stay and Linus Tanneryd added a goal on a penalty kick in the second half to secure the victory.

The Shoes improved to 16-4-2 on the season.

They will now play in the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin Sectional. They will face the winner of the Riverton Regional at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Riverton and Pleasant Plains were playing for that regional championship.

The regional winners from the Alton Marquette and Raymond Lincolnwood regionals will also be in the sectional.

Teutopolis ended its regular soccer season with a 2-2 tie Tuesday at Olney.

Linus Tanneryd and Jack Poelker scored the two THS goals.

The Shoes ended their regular season with a 14-4-2 record.

They will now host a Class 1A Regional. Teutopolis is the No. 2 seed.

The regional will begin Friday when Vandalia and St. Anthony meet at 4 p.m. The winner of that match will face the Wooden Shoes at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Newton will then play Altamont at 6:30 p.m.

The regional championship match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.                     

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes will face Newton for the regional championship.

Five different players scored a goal, leading T-Town to a 5-0 shutout Tuesday over St. Anthony in a semifinal contest of the Teutopolis Class 1A Regional.

Newton got by Altamont 1-0 in the other semifinal, setting up the championship match. The Shoes and Eagles will now play for the regional title Friday night. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Alessio Bucciarelli and Jack Poelker both scored first-half goals, and both off assists from Alex Deters, to build a 2-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Alex Deters, Kaleb Bannick and Derek Deters added goals.

St. Anthony ended its season with an 8-12-2 record, which was an improvement over last year’s 6-9-4 mark.

“We also finished with 58 goals and 47 assists, compared to 40 goals and 21 assists last year,” said St. Anthony coach Martin Reyes. “I want to thank our seniors for their hard work and leadership.”

The Shoes improved to 15-4-2 on the season.

The Teutopolis Regional winner will advance to the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin Sectional and face the winner of the Riverton Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Alton Marquette and Raymond Lincolnwood regional champions will also compete in the sectional.

Linus Tanneryd scored four goals Monday, leading the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes to an 8-2 win at home over Greenville on Senior Night.

Tanneryd, an exchange student from Sweden, scored once in the first half and then added three more in the second half when the Shoes pulled away.

Alex Deters, Noah Hemmen, Alessio Bucciarelli and Kaleb Bannick also scored for the Shoes, who improved to 14-4-1 on the season.

T-Town will play its final regular season today (Tuesday) at Olney.
