Numerous Effingham High School athletes were recognized at the Fall Sports Awards ceremony.

That included cross country.

The boys receiving letters were – Zeel Patel, Clayton Cramsey, Freddy Lopez, Jon Perry and Andrew Donaldson.

The girls receiving letters were – Hope Monnet, Nicole Schneidrjon, Kiley Weaver, Daelyn Dunston and Marah Kirk.

Individual award winners for boys were:

The Effingham boys and girls competed Tuesday in the Apollo Conference Cross Country Meet, hosted by Mahomet-Seymour.

The hosts emerged as the conference champions in both the boys and the girls races. Effingham was fifth in the girls contest and the boys finished sixth.

In the girls race, Mahomet-Seymour had 37 points to narrowly defeat Mt. Zion, who finished just one point behind at 38. Charleston was third with 85, followed by Mattoon 109, Effingham, 123 and Lincoln 148. Taylorville also competed but didn’t have enough runners to earn a team score.

The host Bulldogs had an easier time in the boys meet, finishing with 33 points and well ahead of Mattoon’s 59. Taylorville was third with 92, followed by Mt. Zion 111, Charleston 115, Effingham 135 and Lincoln 176.

For the Lady Hearts, Kiley Weaver was 20th in 20:57.21; Marah Kirk 21st in 20:58.01; Nicole Schniederjon 24th in 22:00.07; Hope Monnet 28th in 23:44.4; and Daelyn Dunston 30th in 24:13.94.

Alfredo Lopez led the Effingham boys. He finished 17th in 17:43.64. Also for the Hearts, Clayton Cramsey was 26th in 18:18.09; Zeel Patel 29th in 18:47.36; Andrew Donaldson 30th in 18:52.25; and Garrett Wagoner 33rd in 19:35.77.

Effingham will participate Saturday in the St. Anthony Bulldog Classic.

The Effingham and Teutopolis boys and girls cross country teams competed Saturday in the Olney Invitational.

The host Lady Tigers won the girls event, finishing with 54 team points. Teutopolis was 6th in the 11-team field with 149 points. Even though Effingham didn’t have enough runners to compile a team score, three Lady Hearts placed high enough to earn a medal.

Marah Kirk, Riley Weaver and Nicole Schniederjon each medaled for the Lady Hearts, while Jessica Runde, Abby Bloemer and Tory Tenson qualified for medals for T-Town.

In the boys race, Centralia took top honors with 43 team points. Effingham was seventh with 183 points, followed by the Wooden Shoes in eight with 221 points. There were 15 boys teams in the 2.96-mile race.

Zeel Patel, Clayton Cramsey and Alfredo Lopez earned medals for the Hearts, while Ethan Weidner medaled for Teutopolis.

The Effingham cross country teams traveled to Centralia Saturday to compete in an invitational.

The Lady Hearts finished fourth out of seven teams and the EHS boys were ninth overall. Both races covered three miles at Foundation Park in Centralia.

Carbondale won the girls race with 36 teams points. Effingham had 92. In the boys race, Centralia was the winner with 40 points, while the Hearts had 233.

For the Lady Hearts, Marah Kirk was 11th in 20:13.2; Kiley Weaver 14th in 20:32.0; Nicole Schniederjon 23rd in 21:19.5; Hope Monnet 26th in 22:33.3; and Daelyn Dunston 29th in 22:47.3.

For the EHS boys, Clayton Cramsey was 40th in 18:12.9; Zeel Patel 43rd in 18:23.6; Preston Latch 52nd in 19:08.3; Dane Seiler 56th in 19:37.0; and Frank Rosen 57th in 19:47.5.

Effingham will compete in the Apollo Conference meet Tuesday in Mahomet.
