Ava Boehm turned in a terrific round, shooting a 37, and helped the Effingham girls golf team win a triangular match Wednesday at Charleston Country Club.

Boehm was the medalist and helped the Lady Hearts to a 184 total. In fact, she beat Mattoon’s Kira Wolf, who is being recruited by Minnesota, by two shots. Charleston finished at 199 and Mattoon at 217.

Morgan Krouse shot 41, Kennedy Collier 47 and Jaelyn Boone 59 to round out the EHS team scoring. Also participating were Anna Sigg (64) and Anna Hirtzel (65).

Effingham, along with Teutopolis and St. Anthony, will play Monday at Fox Prairie Golf Course near Windsor. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The St. Anthony and Effingham boys golf teams competed Monday in the John Macek Invitational, which was played at a rainy U of I Orange Course in Champaign.

Jayden Rios and Ryan Schultz both shot 81 to help the Bulldogs finish fourth in the 17-team event. St. Anthony finished with 333 total strokes and behind Morton (321), Hillsboro (324) and Bloomington (331).

Effingham’s Tate Niebrugge fired an 80, placed ninth overall and helped the Hearts to an eighth place finish with 349 total strokes.

For St. Anthony, Thomas Chojnicki shot 83 and Luke Flaig added an 88 to complete the team score. Rios and Schultz tied for 10th overall, while Chojnicki tied for 15th. Jonathan Willenborg (88) and Michael Martelli (89) also competed.

For EHS, Aiden Beck shot 85, Austin Waldhoff 87 and Ben Donsbach 97 to complete the team scoring. Ryker Schnieder (105) and Ethan Ritz (108) also participated.

St. Anthony will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Salem.

Effingham won’t play again until Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Hearts will be at home against Vandalia.
