The Effingham boys golf team participated in the Apollo Conference Tournament Monday and finished fifth.

Charleston was the conference champion, finishing with a team score of 311 at the Moweaqua Country Club. Lincoln was runner-up with 327, Mattoon 329, Mt. Zion 338, Effingham 352, Mahomet-Seymour 361 and Taylorville 402.

Aiden Beck had the Hearts’ best round, shooting an 18-hole total of 82. Tate Niebrugge finished at 86, Austin Waldhoff 94 and Ben Donsbach 96 to complete the team scoring. Ryker Schneider (97) and Nick Burgess (98) also played.

“We finished a disappointing fifth,” said EHS coach Jeff Schafer. “We had too many big numbers today. We have to play more for the team and less about our own score. We gave away too many shots because of that. We are much better than we showed today.”

Effingham will play today (Tuesday) at Taylorville.

The Effingham boys competed Saturday in the Charleston Invitational and finished with a team score of 358.

Aiden Beck had the Hearts best round, shooting an 81. Tate Niebrugge finished with 83, Nick Burgess 96 and Colby Haynes 98 to compete the team scoring. Also playing was Ryker Schneider (99) and Ethan Ritz (101).

Effingham will play today (Monday) in the Apollo Conference Tournament at Taylorville.

The Effingham Hearts dropped a golf match to Sullivan Wednesday at the Effingham Country Club.

The Hearts were defeated by 10 strokes, 166-176.

For EHS, Aiden Beck turned in the best round, finishing with a nine-hole total of 42. Austin Waldhoff shot 44, and both Ben Donsbach and Ryker Schneider shot 45. Also playing was Tate Niebrugge (47), Nick Burgess (52), David Splechter (53), Ethan Ritz (56) and Colby Haynes (60).

The Hearts will be at home again today (Thursday), facing Casey-Westfield.

The Effingham Lady Hearts rolled to a big win in girls golf Wednesday.

Ava Boehm, Kennedy Collier and Morgan Krouse shot 38, 40 and 41 respectively, helping the Lady Hearts to an 80-stroke win. The final was 175-255.

Madi Stortzum finished with a 55 to complete the team scoring for EHS. Also playing was Anna Sigg (60) and Jaelyn Boone (61).

The Lady Hearts will play at St. Anthony today (Thursday).

The Effingham Lady Hearts had three golfers fire sub-40 rounds and went on to post an easy victory Tuesday afternoon at Effingham Country Club.

The Lady Hearts finished with a 163 team total, while Mt. Zion shot 215 and Pana 232.

The EHS boys team was also in action at the country club, but dropped a 152-164 decision to Charleston.

For the Lady Hearts, Morgan Krouse led the way with a nine-hole score of 35, while Ava Boehm and Kennedy Collier both shot 38, and Anna Sigg finished at 52 to complete the team scoring. Jaelyn Boone (54) and Anna Hirtzel (59) also played.
