As you drove into the Effingham Country Club Thursday, there was a banner on the side of the road that summed up the entire day.

“Thanks A Million,” it read.

And later that evening, after 39 teams completed 18 holes of golf on a hot, 90+-degree afternoon, that same sentiment continued to fill the club.

As usual, the 26th annual Carl P. Koerner Memorial Golf Sports Spectacular was an overwhelming success.

But on this particular day, an impressive milestone was reached and surpassed.

With what was raised Thursday, this event has now donated more than $1 million to the high school sports programs in Effingham.
